Benihomare is a black tea cultivar originating from Indian varieties introduced from Calcutta by Tada Motokichi. Has rich liquor color and flavor with distinctive fragrance, producing excellent black tea quality. Late season variety with harvest period about 20 days later than green tea varieties, with minimal quality deterioration from maturity progression, allowing harvest of slightly harder leaves advantageous for yield security. Strong tree vigor but fewer buds resulting in somewhat inferior yield. Medium cold resistance, weak to trunk canker disease and blister blight.
