Description

Benikaori is a black tea cultivar registered in 1954, developed over 20 years from crossing Ai21 × Nka03. Tree form is upright with strong vigor in late season. Main characteristics are excellent black tea quality, especially extremely high Chinese-type fresh fragrance and strong flavor. High tannin content with excellent black tea quality. High yield with strong disease and cold resistance making it a practical variety. Suitable for cultivation in black tea production areas in warm regions of Kyushu and Shikoku. One of the varieties that played an important role in Japanese black tea production.
