Benitachiwase is a very early season black tea cultivar developed at Kagoshima Prefecture Tea Experiment Station. Characterized by elegant Assam-type fragrance and well-balanced flavor, producing excellent black tea quality. Tree form is upright with vigorous secondary growth, leaves are long oval and very large. Excellent cold and disease resistance with strong regenerative capacity making vegetative propagation easy. Suitable for warm regions of southern Kyushu and Shikoku, but requires frost protection due to very early season nature. Strong upright growth makes timing of training management important.
