Hokumei is a tea variety certified in 1992, created by crossing Sayamamidori × 5507. Its greatest feature is excellent cold resistance, strong against red withering, and suitable for cool regions. It has particularly strong aroma and excellent appearance. The yield shows high productivity equal to Sayamakaori. It is a somewhat late-maturing variety with late budding, but has vigorous tree vigor and upright tree shape. It was named with the hope of spreading cultivation near the northern limit of tea cultivation.
