Description

Koyanishi is a variety selected by Sugiyama Hikosaburo from Uji variety seedling gardens in Shizuoka Prefecture. It has characteristic aroma and is good as sencha. A medium-season variety but sprouting period is 1-7 days earlier than Yabukita, and harvesting period is about 2 days earlier. A bud-weight type variety with 100-bud weight larger than Yabukita, but yield is inferior due to fewer buds. Tree form is upright with good cutting rooting ability. Suitable for regions with little frost damage west of Shizuoka Prefecture. Fertilization management is important; if insufficient, seed formation increases and hastens tea garden deterioration.
