Description

Miyoshi is a sencha variety registered in 1953, selected from Uji variety seedlings. It has characteristic liquor color but slightly inferior taste and aroma development. While other varieties are for vegetative propagation, it is relatively suitable for seed propagation with high genetic purity of seeds. A medium-season variety with the same sprouting period as Yabukita but earlier germination, making it susceptible to frost damage. Weak against red leaf blight and suitable for warm regions of Tokai-Kinki area. Demand has decreased due to the spread of cutting nursery technology.
